The Gospel is the amazing story of Jesus Christ. The Bible records for us the life and ministry of Jesus. The Apostle Paul summarized the Gospel like this:
"Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel" - 2 Timothy 2:8 (NIV)
He went on to say that he was being chained up like a criminal for saying those things. When we pause for a moment and consider what he meant, these words describe Jesus in the most amazing way.
We know a lot about the life of Jesus. Have you ever wondered why he was killed? The Gospels tell us that He gave his life to save the world from sin. He took our sins upon Him and took our place on the cross of crucifixion. All of the evil things we have done were laid upon Jesus, and He willingly laid down His life. Not just for the world in general, but also for you specifically. This is amazing news, but that's not all.
Jesus did not stay dead. On the third day God raised Jesus to life. Wait, what? Yes, it's true. Jesus died and then he was raised to life. While He died for our sins, He had no sin of His own that would cause Him to die. He is perfect and sinless. The Bible teaches that death happens because of sin. Because He is perfect, sin could not keep him down. As a result He rose victoriously and not only defeated sin, but He also defeated death. Jesus died on the cross in your place and came back to life. Even though we will die because of our own sins, we will also be raised from the dead. The resurrection is for you too! 1 Corinthians 6:14 tells us, "...God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power." In Jesus we are also promised a resurrection. He will raise us up, and through Jesus Christ we too will be victorious over death.
In addition to the crucifixion and resurrection, Jesus is also declared to be a descendant of David. The David that is connected to Jesus is none other than King David of the Jews. If you follow the lineage of King David, Jesus arrives on the earth 28 generations later. This means that Jesus is not just an ordinary religious figure, but also a King. He's also not just the King of the Jews, but He's also king over heaven and earth. Jesus said it this way in John 18:36, "...My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”
There is much more that we can say about Jesus in regards to His ascension, His second coming, and even how He made disciples. WIth all of this truth about Jesus, He stands alone as a unique figure in all of history. He is the only King who gave His life to save others and conquered death. He is still alive today and will return to judge the living and the dead.
We hope this truth about Jesus will encourage you to investigate more of his life, ministry and purpose. We sincerely hope that you will come to a first hand explicit faith in Jesus Christ.
