It has been said that admirers of Jesus don't change the world, followers do. Summer Ministry is designed to put this phrase into action: Mission Activates Faith. The key ingredient to making faith come alive is action. Our faith was never intended to be solely inward, but to also be outward. We want to take these summer months when students have a different weekly routine and give them an opportunity to live on mission in our communities.
This summer outreach is led by our intern team! (They will be raising prayer and financial support so please be looking for their letter in your email inbox). You can give here.
There are two parts to Summer Ministry. The first part is living in discipleship relationships. This is done daily through the preparation and training portions offered to Student Staff (grades 6-12).
The second part is through Camp Sonshine. This is where Interns, Student Staff, and Adult Volunteers go into our communites and lead a week long camp for neighborhood kids. On Friday nights during camp weeks we host a “Carnival Day” and ask children to invite their parents. The schedule for this year is:
June 5-9th Prep Week M-F 10 am-1 pm
June 12-16th Living Vine Week M-F 4:00-8:30pm (Students & Interns) 6-8pm (Camp)
June 19-23rd Akron Alliance Week M-F 4:00-8:30pm (Students & Interns) 6-8pm (Camp)
June 26-30th Kent (Al Lease Park) Week M-F 4:00-8:30pm (Students & Interns) 6-8pm (Camp)
If you are ready to sign up to help just fill out the form at the bottom of this page. We are looking forward to great opportunities to live on mission and activate faith!
Summer Ministry involves combining lots of important aspects of discipleship into a month long process. This process will lead middle school and high school students in ministering to neighborhood children in different contexts. The camp experience portion is designed for children 1st-5th grade and will be held in the evenings.
What is the Schedule? The schedule typically looks like this, but is subject to change.

On Friday nights we host a “Carnival Day” and ask children to invite their parents. We will need some help building & bringing carnival games and activities for this event.
VBS is typically run by a handful of volunteers and focuses mainly on the “event for kids.” Summer ministry is more about exposing students to mission in a variety of contexts, providing them with daily discipleship and ministry opportunities, and empowering them to grow and develop by being placed in a variety of leadership roles for an extended period of time.
We will need adults to help with a variety of logistical needs like: setting up tents, meeting parents, transportation, nurse station, prayer, building & bringing carnival games, and food/snacks. We also have a few spots for adults to serve as mentors for our interns and student leaders.
Below are the forms for campers for kids grade PreK-5 (based on the 2022-23 school year) that can be downloaded, filled out and turned in at the Camp Registration table.
